Roof Ventilation

A roof needs air moving through the attic to push out summer heat and winter moisture. Without it, shingles bake from below, decking can rot, insulation gets damp and the house works harder to stay comfortable.

We evaluate and improve attic ventilation across Middle Tennessee, balancing intake at the soffits with exhaust at the ridge. In Nashville's humid summers, a well-ventilated attic helps the roof system last and keeps heat from building up in the rooms underneath.

FAQ

Common questions about roof ventilation

How do I know if my attic is poorly ventilated?

Signs include very hot rooms, damp insulation, frost on nails in winter and shingles that age faster than expected.

Are ridge vents better than box vents?

Ridge vents spread exhaust along the peak and work well with soffit intake. Box vents are useful where a ridge vent is not possible.

Can attic fans help?

Sometimes, but they must be balanced with intake. A fan that pulls air from the house can do more harm than good.
